London: Faces and body parts squashed against windscreens, toes perilously close to door hinges, a new Guinness World Record belonged to a group of 28 UK girls, by squeezing into a Mini on Thursday 15 November.
The group has set an official record for the Most People Crammed into a Mini to celebrate Guinness World Records Day near London’s Tower Bridge.
Jayne Brockwell, one of the car-cram record-breakers said that the event was amazing, but it was like the worst thing ever – there was no air, you just have to zone out.
Brockwell’s carefully choreographed position earned her the nickname “Gearstick Girl”.
Speaking before the event, organizer Dani Maynard revealed the girls had been doing extra training sessions in a bid to set the record.
She said: “While we have not quite been able to fit any of the girls into the Mini’s glove box, there is a surprising amount of space to utilise and we are really confident that we will break the record again this year.
“After our achievement last year, 27 people in the car, we know exactly what it takes to squeeze 28 people into a Mini and we stepped up our training regime to include extra stretching and fun activities like hula-hoop relay racing.”
